Creative Writing Group
Welcome to the new Creative Writing Group page! We will meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 1.30pm in Ashill. The meetings will last approximately 2 hours including a break for refreshments to fuel our creative ideas.
At each meeting, we will discuss the pieces of work we have written during the previous month, and decide which theme/topic to write about over the next month for the following meeting.
An example of themes could be a cafe scene, a story around a picture or postcard, or finding unusual words in the dictionary and incorporating them into a story. Another idea could be for each member to write a piece of dialogue for a character in a short play. There are many more ideas and topics to explore. Each member could take it in turns to choose the theme or we can experiment so that we have fun with our new-found creativity. It doesn’t matter if there are grammar or spelling errors, as the point of the group is to be creative. We will all bring different experience, strengths and ideas to the group, and we can discuss what we want to achieve as we go along.
An agreed limit will be set with regard to how many words to write for each piece. We could then progress to producing a Drabble - a specific number of words e.g. 100 can be a fun challenge.
If you would like to join us (you need to be a Swaffham & District u3a member) or would like further information, please contact the group leader, Laurene Henderson: [email protected]’
